Mae C. Jemison
Education
Education was an essential component to Mae Jemison’s success as not only female astronaut, engineer, physician but also as an overall person. Graduated from Morgan Park High School, Chicago, Illinois, in 1973. Mae Jeminson was convinced he wanted to pursue a career in biomedical engineering. She extended her education by attending two great universities on the road to obtaining her doctorate. Dr. Jemison received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering (and fulfilled the requirements for a B.A. in African and Afro-American Studies) while on National Achievement Scholarship from Stanford University in 1977, just 4 years after she graduated high school which some may say shows dedication and persistence. Upon accomplishing those two goals, she will achieve yet another tremendous goal just 4 years later, as she received a doctorate degree in medicine from Cornell University in 1981.
